<p>Naast de routineactiviteiten draagt de LHUB-ULB ook bij aan de ontwikkeling van innovatieve benaderingen voor een betere diagnose, preventie en behandeling van ziekten die in de verschillende aangesloten ziekenhuizen worden aangetroffen. <p>Het is nu een van de vijf grootste universitaire ziekenhuislaboratoria in Europa geworden.</p> <p>De krijtlijnen voor dit project dateren uit de jaren 90, maar het is pas in 2008 dat de iris-Koepel het principieel besluit neemt om een laboratorium voor klinische biologie op te richten, gemeenschappelijk voor het hele net.
